State Championships at Burke Mountain Academy

Friday 3/6/15 Slalom 7:30 Registration, 8:30 Inspection, 9:30 1st Run Start 
Saturday 3/7/15 Giant Slalom 7:30 Registration, 8:30 Inspection, 9:30 1st Run 
Sunday 3/8/15 Super-G 7:30 Registration, 8:30 Inspection, 9:30 Training Run 
 
Registration: There is no need to contact BMA to register for U16 States. Qualification is done  
through council standings. BMA will receive the names of qualified athletes directly from the councils  
and VARA. A U16 council racer qualifies to compete in the states by participating in at least 2 council  
series races. 
 
Payment: We highly encourage you to pay online through AdminSkiRacing.com. The costs are as  
follows: Slalom $60 (3/6/15); GS $60 (3/7/15); SG $70 (3/8/15). Payment by credit card can be made  
online up to 5pm the night before each event. This is the only way to pay by credit card. After the  
deadline, payment can be made by cash or check only at registration in the morning.

Condo/town-home rentals are available very close to the mountain. There are several small inns in  
East Burke. Lyndonville offers mid-sized, independently owned motels approximately 15 minutes  
away. St. Johnsbury, 25 minutes away, has the closest major chain hotel. 
 
T-Shirts: There will be a commemorative t-shirt given out at this event. We will be giving out the t- 
shirts for this event at registration on Saturday morning (GS). 
 
Bibs: Bibs can be picked up each morning at registration and must be returned each afternoon. The  
start order will change from day to day. Please make sure all bibs come back promptly so that we can  
sort them for the next day.

of Mid-Burke Lodge fifteen minutes after conclusion of race. 
 
Seeding Details/First Run Start Order: The U16 States will be seeded as follows: seeding will be  
based on Council rankings. The start lists will be based on a Council rotation as determined by a  
random draw by VARA. For each event, the top 15 athletes will be randomly scrambled. 
 
(Please return your bibs each afternoon!) 
 
Second Run Start Order: The second run start order will be by "flip-30 bibbo." The athletes will be  
ordered by their first run time. In the event of a tie, the higher bib number will be placed ahead of the  
lower bib number. The order of the top-30 athletes will then be reversed. DNF`s and DSQ`s from the  
first run will run at the end in bib order. 
 
Course Setters: Course setters and officials will be selected prior to the U16 States by the VARA  
Executive Director and VARA Youth Coordinator with input from the VARA AO Chair. Refs will be  
selected by the TD. 
 
Forerunners: Forerunners will be chosen by the host site 
 
Training space at Burke is available on a first-come/first-served basis for $350/session $45/athlete, 2  
coaches` tickets are included in the lane fee, additional coaches` tickets are $45. Contact  
sdamon@burkemtnacademy.org to schedule. 
 
Awards: The host site will present awards to the top 10 boys and girls in each event. VARA will  
provide awards for the top-3 overall. The Overall U16 State Champion will be named to the VARA  
Team for the 2016 season. 
 
Parent/Friend Tickets (20% discount) may be purchased at the Shelburne Base Lodge. 
 
Burke Mountain, Burke Mountain Academy and VARA expect all athletes to adhere to the VARA  
Code of Contact. That is all athletes behave in a sportsman like manner befitting worthy  
representatives of their families, ski areas and in conformity with the best traditions of Alpine Ski  
Racing in the State of Vermont. Athletes unable to adhere to these rules may be subject to disciplinary  
action. 
 
EASTERN U16 FINALS  
March 12-15 Sunday River, Me - Vermont Quota: 22  
Qualification: The VARA athletes from the U16 states, who do not qualify for the U16  
Championships, will be named to the Vermont U16 Finals team. The Vermont team will be seeded at  
the Eastern U16 Finals based on their ranking at the U16 States. For more information on the U16  
Finals please refer to the USSA Competition Guide. 
 
EASTERN U16 CHAMPIONSHIPS 
March 16-20, Whiteface NY Vermont Quota: 64  
 
Qualification: The top athletes (gender split) from the U16 states will be named to the VT U16  
Eastern Championship Team. The athletes will be seeded at the U16 Championships according to their  
ranking at the VARA U16 States. Top finishers from the U16 Eastern Championships will represent the  
Eastern Region at the U16 National Talent ID Project in Park City, UT April 30- May 4, 2015 and the  
U16 Am Can Project at Stowe, VT, Mar 24-26, 2015.  
 
Automatic Status: Council automatics to the Eastern Championships will receive seeding in at  
least the second seed for U16 Junior Eastern Championships. The NVC will receive two automatic  
spots (one male, one female) and the SMVC four automatic spots (two male, two female).
